Earlier this month, the WildINTEL and BIG_PICTURE projects joined forces at the 8th European Congress of Conservation Biology (ECCB 2026) in Leiden to host a two-part symposium on the future of camera-trap based wildlife monitoring.
Across 12 presentations, researchers from both biodiversa+ projects and partner institutions shared the latest advances in camera trapping, artificial intelligence, citizen science, Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs), ecological modelling, and FAIR biodiversity data.
More importantly, the symposium highlighted the value of collaboration. By bringing together complementary expertise from across Europe, WildINTEL and BIG_PICTURE are helping to build harmonised, scalable approaches for monitoring wildlife and supporting biodiversity conservation.
